

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Born in a
traditional family at Ongole, Prakasam District, Andhra Pradesh, India,
on the 9th of August, 1939, Dr. Radhakrishna Murthy, Pothuri, MBBS. FCGP.,
DNB., FIAMS., has been doing Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology and Obstetrics
practice independently in Vijayawada (A.P., India)
since 1965. Graduated in Medical Sciences from Guntur Medical
College (1957-62). He later worked at the Jawaharlal
Institute of Post Graduate Medical
Education and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry, first as Senior Resident House
Surgeon and then as Surgical Registrar from 1963-65
He had vast
experience in treating patients for more than 35 years as an independent
practitioner, mostly by his clinical background since there were no present day
investigative procedures at his place in
the first three decades of his practice.
He is a
Diplomate of National Board in Family Medicine in1983, the first in A.P.State
to gain this distinction.
He enjoys the
rarest distinction of Honorary Associate Professor of General Practice/Family
Medicine of IMA College of General Practitioners, Delhi. .
He devoted his
time in teaching General Practitioners for FCGP examination in Medicine,
Surgery, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Social and Preventive Medicine in 1986-87
and three of his students bagged alternate places in the top six. He was
awarded, "Scroll of Honour" by IMA College of General Practitioners
in 1986. He chaired many conferences, took part in panel discussions, chaired
clinical meetings and presented cases in clinical meetings. He is an exemplary
general practitioner with unusual skills and great interest in pursuing
academic activities. He was the President of IMA Vijayawada host branch and
Chairman of Scientific Committee, during the 70th All India Medical Conference,
held at Vijayawada
from 25th to 29th December, 1994. Presently, he is the
Joint Director of IMA College of General Practitioners, A.P. State
and the National President of Association of Family Medicine Specialists of
India (AFI)
He participated in IMA study tour to UK, USA
and Canada and attended the 7th
World Medical Conference of WONCA on Family Medicine/General Practice at
TORANTO, Canada
in 1976 and visited many European countries.
He visited many hospitals in USA in 1999 and travelled to many
South-East Asian Countries. He is a
prolific writer; he contributed richly to the medical magazines of repute.
“Heart in Fours”
was first published in CME journal of IMACGP, May 1984, initially 10 pages with
55 points and it earned instant appreciation. Later, it metamorphosed into full
blown work with 22 chapters containing 2115X 4 points in the first
edition. The second edition has been
improved to 2,868X4 points.
”Heart in Fours” was
appreciated by many students, specialists and teachers.
